Fortune Magazine: Robots are solving construction’s challenges, including a workforce shortage

In a recent Fortune Magazine feature, Canvas was proud to be highlighted as a key player in addressing the construction industry’s workforce shortages through robotics. With labor shortages becoming a critical issue as experienced workers retire, Canvas’ robots are stepping in to take on the physically demanding tasks of drywall finishing. As CEO Kevin Albert notes, “Right now, we’re retiring two people for every one customer we bring in, so we have a huge need to bring new workers up on skills quickly.”

Canvas robots automate the labor-intensive process of drywall finishing, completing tasks that would typically take five days in just two. This allows workers to focus on higher-skill tasks such as overseeing robots, adjusting schedules, and ensuring safety protocols. In addition to boosting efficiency, Albert emphasizes that the technology “levels the playing field” by creating new opportunities for people, including those with disabilities, to be part of the construction trade.

As Fortune Magazine highlights, the construction industry is on the cusp of a technological transformation, and companies like Canvas are leading the way by integrating advanced robotics to solve some of the industry’s toughest challenges.
