ENR: Canvas Unveils the 1200CX, a Smaller Form Factor Drywall Robot

In a recent ENR article by Jeff Yoders, Canvas proudly unveiled the 1200CX, a more compact version of its drywall robot designed to address the needs of multifamily projects and smaller spaces. CEO Kevin Albert shared that customer feedback played a significant role in the development of this third-generation robot. “By about 2022, we started hearing from our customers what they wanted,” Albert said. The result is a smaller, more maneuverable robot that performs precise drywall finishes, with the 1200CX measuring just 30 in. by 35.4 in. and boasting a 12-ft finishing height.

During a demonstration at Canvas’ headquarters in San Francisco, the 1200CX showcased its ability to complete a level-four drywall finish and seamlessly switch to a sanding attachment to complete the process. Early investor Darren Bechtel, founder of Brick & Mortar Ventures, praised Canvas for focusing on “the dull, dirty, and dangerous work,” allowing contractors to redirect their attention to more complex tasks while robots handle the repetitive labor.

As highlighted in the ENR article, the adoption of robotics in construction is growing, and Canvas’ 1200CX is at the forefront of this transformation, helping contractors ensure quality while addressing workforce shortages.
