Walls & Ceilings: Canvas Machines Cut RQ’s Drywall Finish Times by 50%.

In a recent article in Walls & Ceilings, RQ Construction discussed their partnership with Canvas to address significant labor challenges in drywall finishing. Facing skilled labor shortages in remote project locations requiring high-quality Level 5 drywall finishes, RQ turned to Canvas to overcome these challenges.

RQ Construction’s Self-Perform Leader, Levi Litke, highlighted the impact of Canvas technology: “Canvas’ innovative machines have helped us cut down our Level 5 drywall finish times by approximately 50 percent, allowing us to complete projects ahead of schedule – we are shaving off days and even weeks.”

The adoption of Canvas machines led to substantial productivity improvements, including a 25% reduction in labor hours—equating to savings such as 85.5 hours on the single project—and a 50% schedule reduction for coat and drying cycles. Additionally, the machinery reduced the need for costly equipment like dehumidifiers in tropical, humid conditions.

Litke further explained, “By partnering with Canvas, we are able to stay true to our vision of improving quality, reducing costs and decreasing cycle time for our customers while strengthening the safety and innovation aspects of our core values.”

Canvas’ technology also significantly improved workplace safety by reducing physical strain on workers, thereby decreasing the risk of chronic injuries and enhancing overall site conditions. Moreover, RQ now easily trains workers without previous drywall experience, broadening a previously diminutive labor pool and making staffing new projects easier.
